Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

The short version: Olana has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your history, bookmarks, passwords, downloads and settings are stored only on your iPhone. We, Essential Dev Team, never receive them.

Who we are

Olana Browser ("Olana", "the app") is made by Essential Dev Team ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy: essentialdevteam@gmail.com.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not run servers that receive your browsing data, and the app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking SDKs. We never use your device's advertising identifier.

What stays on your iPhone

These are created by you and stored only on your device (and in your iPhone backups, if you use them):

Private tabs keep no history, cookies or form data, and their data is erased when you close them.

When Olana connects to the internet

A browser has to talk to the websites you open. Beyond that, Olana only makes the connections below, and only for the features you use:

FeatureWhat is sent, and to whom
Websites you visitYour requests go directly to those websites, which may set cookies and see your IP address, as with any browser. Shields block known ad and tracker requests before they load.
Search and suggestionsWhat you type in the address bar goes to the search engine you chose (for example Google, DuckDuckGo or Qwant). Live suggestions can be turned off in Settings and are never requested from private tabs.
Ad and tracker listsOnce a day Olana downloads the public EasyList and EasyPrivacy lists from easylist.to, and any custom lists you added. Nothing about you is sent.
Weather (optional)If you turn on weather, your approximate location — rounded to about 10 km — is sent to Open-Meteo to get a forecast. Apple's geocoder turns it into a city name. Location is never requested until you choose to show weather.
TranslateOn iOS 18 and later, pages are translated on your iPhone with Apple's Translation. If on-device translation isn't available for a language, Olana can load the page through Google Translate, which receives the page address. This fallback is never used in private tabs.
Password leak checkTo check whether a saved password appeared in a data breach, Olana sends only the first 5 characters of the password's SHA-1 hash to Have I Been Pwned (k-anonymity). Your password never leaves your iPhone.
Olana AIRuns entirely on your iPhone with Apple's on-device model. Your questions and page text are not sent anywhere.
DownloadsWhen you download a file or video, Olana requests it from the site hosting it, with the same cookies that site already uses in your browser.
Wi‑Fi sharing (optional)Runs a temporary server on your local network, protected by a PIN shown on your iPhone. Files go only to devices on your network that know the PIN.
Updates and purchasesOlana checks Apple's public App Store listing to see if a newer version exists. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.

Permissions

Olana asks before using: the camera (to scan QR codes), the microphone and speech recognition (voice search, processed on your iPhone where supported), Face ID (to unlock private tabs, files, passwords or the app), approximate location (weather), photos (only to save images or videos you choose), and the local network (Wi‑Fi sharing). Websites that ask for your camera, microphone or location need your permission too, which you can manage per site in Site info.

Deleting your data

Use Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Clear browsing data, or set Olana to clear automatically when you leave or close the app. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

Olana is a general-audience web browser and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and describe the change here. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
